Brian has been a member of the Suite 20 Consultants Group since joining in 1999. He provides high calibre psychological treatment to adults requiring help with mood, anxiety, trauma, health and relationship issues. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists and registered as a Specialist Provider of Clinical Psychology Services with Medicare.
Brian received his Clinical Psychology training at the University of Sydney where he was awarded the AH Martin Scholarship for Excellence. Since then he has been a passionate supporter of evidence-based treatments and kept abreast with advancements in treatments to the present time. He has completed further training in Behavioural Marital Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
With over 25 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist, Brian’s skill and experience have been recognised by appointment to high level clinical and management roles as a head of department of clinical psychology, senior professional grading in the NSW Department of Health, and presidency of a prominent professional organisation. He is currently:
o Senior Clinical Psychologist, to The Northside Clinic Mood Disorders Unit
o Regional Allied Health Manager, The Northside Group
o Consultant Clinical Psychologist to the Eastern Suburbs Pain Clinic
His past roles have included:
o Head, Department of Clinical Psychology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
o Senior Clinical Psychologist, Dept of Psychiatry Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
o Clinical Psychologist, Mood Disorders Unit, Prince Henry Hospital (now The Black Dog Institute)
o President, Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy (AACBT) (NSW) 1992-1994.
He has worked extensively with mood disorder patients, with 22 years of consultancy to specialist Mood Disorder Units. He has presented and published papers on CBT treatment of depression as well as investigations of coping style in depression. He has been invited to teach and present workshops on the psychological treatment of depression by Sydney and Macquarie Universities, various GP Divisions of Health in northern Sydney and the Australian Psychological Society. He also has extensive experience in helping patients with chronic pain and other health problems (insomnia, diabetes, cardiac rehabilitation). He provided psychological services to medical and surgical patients of Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals, and has been a Consultant to the Concord Hospital and Camperdown Pain Clinics. He is a registered provider with Workcover and has been an Independent Assessor with the
Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) Medical Assessment Service.
He has specialised in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy since training in 2004, and presented papers at the 2007 Australian and 2010 World ACT Conferences. He is a member of the Australian and international Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (ACBS).
Brian has been a supervisor for the Clinical Psychology Training Programmes at the Sydney, Macquarie University and New South Wales Universities since the late 1980’s. He is a Clinical Associate/Fellow in the Departments of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sydney and Western Sydney.
